Sharing Lyrics

I want to share some selected lyrics from songs that I'm really enjoying at the moment. Two each from Rush, The Beatles, and Simon & Garfunkel.

Rush - Lakeside Park

Everyone would gather
On the twenty-fourth of May
Sitting in the sand
To watch the fireworks display.
Dancing fires on the beach,
Singing songs together...
Though it's just a memory,
Some memories last forever.

Rush - The Necromancer
Silence shrouds the forest
As the birds announce the dawn
Three trav'llers ford the river
And southward journey on
The road is lined with peril
The air is charged with fear
The shadow of his nearness
Weighs like iron tears

The Beatles - I'm Looking Through You
I have an ongoing debate with myself on this song. Happy or sad? The lyrics are sad, but the music seems optimistic, I think... Thoughts?
I'm looking through you, where did you go
I thought I knew you, what did I know
You don't look different, but you have changed
I'm looking through you, you're not the same

Your lips are moving, I cannot hear
Your voice is soothing, but the words aren't clear
You don't sound different, I've learned the game.
I'm looking through you, you're not the same

Why, tell me why, did you not treat me right?
Love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight

The Beatles - Norwegian Wood

I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me...
She showed me her room, isn't it good, norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine.
We talked until two and then she said, "It's time for bed"

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath

And when I awoke, I was alone, this bird had flown
So I lit a fire, isn't it good, norwegian wood.

Simon and Garfunkel - Kodachrome
Kodachrome, they give us those nice bright colours
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Simon and Garfunkel - Hazy Shade of Winter
Seasons change with the scenery;
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won't you stop and remember me

At any convenient time?
Funny how my memory skips
Looking over manuscripts
Of unpublished rhyme.
Drinking my vodka and lime,
I look around
Leaves are brown,
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter.

Thanks for sharing, they all seem connected through a few themes.

I think the Beatle song isn't a sad one. I can see how one can debate for both sides, but I don't think it's a sad song because it deals with revelation. The song deals with understanding one's environment and routines. When people become automatic, they look the same, yet they feel different. It's as if the narrator becomes aware of this dullness and identifies it.

I really enjoy the musicality of the Rush songs. Just reading them, I could hear the music in my mind. I really enjoy how they write their songs.

I really hadn't noticed that they're all connected. They just seem to be songs that I'm enjoying at the moment. I wonder if the connection is not subconscious. You're right in saying that they're connected through themes... and I think they seem to be relating to longing for the past, losing something, or changes. Seems fitting.

As far as the Beatles' song goes, your words have made me look on it in a different light. I was not thinking of it in those terms.
